Calligraphy Workshop FAQs

I've never tried calligraphy before! Can I still attend a workshop?
Absolutely! My current workshops are intended for absolute beginners.

Can left-handed writers learn calligraphy?
Of course! I provide penholders for both right and left-handed users in class.

Surely I'm too old to learn calligraphy!
You're never too old! I myself didn't start learning calligraphy until my mid-40s. And my students range in age from 16 to 78!

I have the worst hand-writing though!
Believe it or not, calligraphy has nothing to do with handwriting. My own handwriting is pretty scrawly. Calligraphy is based upon a series of strokes which you build up slowly to create letters.

Do I need to bring anything to eat?
Not unless you want to or have any special dietary requirements, but light refreshments are provided in class. Lunch is not included, but I can make recommendations for places to eat.

Are tickets refundable?
Tickets are strictly non-refundable due to venue booking and material costs. I do, however, try to transfer students onto a future date pending availability and on a case-by-case basis, although this is not guaranteed. (Please also refer to my T&Cs at the bottom of this page.)

Do I need to purchase any supplies for the workshop?
No, you will be provided with all the materials you need on the day. And you will be able to take your kit home with you afterwards so that you can keep on practicing.

How will I remember what you teach us?
I've covered all of that so that you don't have to remember a thing! A set of class notes will be emailed to you after the workshop for you to print out at home.

What if I cannot attend any of the classes listed?
New dates and venues are being added all the time. Please join our mailing list to be notified on new dates when they are announced.

Where are classes held?
I use venues in and around Surrey and South London. Please check the individual workshop page for full information.

How often are classes held?
At the moment workshops are held every couple of months or so depending upon my other obligations. However, a higher demand will increase frequency, so please do register your interest by joining the mailing list.

How long are the classes?
At present classes are 3 hours long, which should be ample time to develop your new skill.

Do you teach private workshops or one-to-one lessons?
Sure! Please contact me via the website or send an email to hello@fineletterco.com to discuss your requirements.
