hello, i'm Leanda, a letterer and illustrator based in Surrey, U.K.
Following many years working as a graphic designer with prestigious clients both in London and Athens, I dropped a full-time career to concentrate on raising a family. In 2010 I set up my first studio One Little Bird, designing typographic prints for the modern home. Many of my prints featured fonts that had a hand-drawn feel which inspired me to investigate learning copperplate and pointed pen calligraphy. After months of intense study, The Fine Letter Co. was born in the summer of 2015.
I have worked on a variety of projects spanning weddings, promotional events and branding. My clients include The International Yacht Register, Mappin & Webb, Ginger Ray, Tatler, Bombay Gin, Vogue, Wonderglass, Cheerios and Ferrero Rocher.
I regularly teach modern calligraphy at Surrey Art School and am a contributor to Calligrafile, the world’s largest online resource for calligraphers and hand-letterers. I am constantly updating my skillset and have studied with professional calligraphers and master penmen. You can read more about me in this interview conducted by Molly Suber Thorpe for Calligrafile.
Apart from lettering and illustration, my passions in life include macrame and my husband's homeland of Greece, where I am lucky enough to spend long, hot summers.
